Congress Passes Continuing Resolution to Extended Medicare Telehealth Waivers

The federal government passed a continuing resolution (CR) that includes short-term extensions for essential telehealth provisions through September 30, 2025.

While Congress and the Trump administration ensured that telehealth programs will continue, telehealth advocates find themselves in a familiar position. Since the passing of this CR only extends your ability to provide (and your patients’ ability to receive) telehealth for another 6 months, your advocacy work isn’t over!

These flexibilities include (not all inclusive):

  • No restrictions on where the patient is located (they may be in their home).
  • Audio-only telehealth will continue to be allowed in certain circumstances (Medicare payments of audio-only telehealth is contingent on some strict requirements).
  • Ability of most non-physician practitioners such as PT, OT, Speech Language Pathologists, Diabetic Educators to provide services via telehealth
  • Hospice eligibility (for F2F recertification visits)

It will be up to Congress to again pass legislation if the flexibilities are to remain in place after September 30, 2025.
